The children are the future, but in the context of eternity, so are the parents! I return to my home in America as often as I can to be with Mom and Dad because few things in life give me as much happiness, few things in life are as simple or as easy to do. It may not seem that way on the face of it, but taking care of elderly parents is very similar to taking care of small children. Routine, simplicity, food, clothing. It’s the moments that are so important – the conversations over tea in the morning, the late night (past eight-thirty!) chats over a glass of wine. Our triumph this week was to get Mom down the ramp (built beautifully by Robert, my brother-in-law) and over to the chapel at Providence College for Mass. Small moments, each one precious.
