Latika Jaanch

Latika Jaanch (formerly Gubbara) is our walk-in center for developmental assessments of children from birth until 18 years of age. While assessments are best done as early as possible, it is never too late. We encourage families to come the first moment they begin to worry, but our door is always open for all children up to the age of 18.
Our developmental testing program screens and assesses children with a variety of developmental concerns, delays and disabilities. This includes the physical, communication, cognitive, behavioral, social domains of child development, and their activities of daily living.

Glimpses Of Our Work

What We Do

Our interdisciplinary team of specialists provides assessments and intervention programs to address the specific needs of children (0—18 years) and their families.

Testing

Testing

Our play-based assessments involve observing the child, conducting detailed discussions with their parents, and incorporating standardized tools and typical development norms. We also conduct functional screening for hearing and vision to assess for developmental delays and disabilities. We identify strengths and concerns with speech, mobility and cognition, and recommend interventions accordingly.

Counseling

Counseling

In collaboration with families, we arrive at a holistic understanding of a child’s strengths and challenges, as well as those of the family. We explain their child’s medical and developmental diagnosis in terms of their child’s development. Then we address their questions.

Interventions

Interventions

We develop and demonstrate easy-to-follow intervention programs and hands-on training so that parents can continue their child’s therapy and learning goals at home. Our interventions are customized to each family’s context and expectations and include special education, therapy, language development and play.

We train parents to support their disabled child or adult at home using easy-to-follow plans and methods that are integrated within the child’s daily routine.

Hands-on practice sessions

Hands-on Practice Sessions

Designed by trained disability assessors, our hands-on sessions give parents practical ways to help their child at home. This can include demonstrations on how to help a child eat and swallow food or water, how to hold a pencil, put on and take off clothes, engage in a social environment and more. Parents practice these solutions in the presence of a professional, so they can be fine tuned and implemented at home.

Resources

Resources

A strengths-based resource is prepared in either English or Hindi, with recommendations for a realistic home management program. We also provide additional resources such as website links, videos and handouts based on a child or family’s needs.
Our team offers parents detailed information on resources for disabled children, that they can avail in their area.

Why is developmental intervention important?

Developmental intervention can always make things better for children and their families. In the early years of a child’s development, by drawing on the tremendous potential of the developing brain, children can learn ways to become more independent and participate.
Our developmental intervention services include assessments, special education, therapy, language development, and play.

We support parents of older children to understand their children’s needs and become advocates for their inclusion and participation. This helps improve the overall quality of life of the child and family. We urge and support families to follow up on interventions prescribed by our therapists with their children at home. Since time with professionals is limited, we work closely with parents to enable them to use therapeutic strategies with their children at home.
