On September 8, World Literacy Day, we were delighted to have Lovleen Misra in association with The Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival, conduct an interactive poetry and storytelling session in Hindi for all our children, their families and anyone else wanted to join.

Lovleen is an actor, screenplay writer and storyteller, fluent in both Hindi and English. As an actor, she is best known for her role as Chhutki in India’s first soap opera Hum Log, but her repertoire spans film, radio and theatre. Over the last 20 years, she has written dialogues for feature films and TV serials, and organized kids’ workshops all over India. Her stories for children have been published by Puffin and Scholastic India, with Pratham Books publishing her first collection of poems in Hindi for children.

This special event was organized in association with The Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival. Bookaroo is India’s first children’s literature festival which has travelled to 16 cities across India and one overseas spreading the joy of reading over the last 11 years. It is run by the Bookaroo Trust, which promotes the joy of reading for pleasure and creating memorable experiences for children through interactions with authors, poets, illustrators and storytellers from the world of children’s books. Since the pandemic it has created a safe online space –Bookaroo LitHouse — that is continuing to bring children and books together, online.

This session for LRF students was part of this initiative.

Bookaroo also donated books for the library at Latika Vihar, our inclusive play center. Thank you so much for your lovely gesture!

This event was organized by our staff at Latika Vihar, our inclusive play center for children aged 3–15. The fee is based no family income. No child is ever turned away due to the inability of their families to pay. The center is supported by a generous grant from the Cipla Foundation.
