Here’s my Number One Guru. The other day I was chatting with a friend and I quoted Ravi. She rolled her eyes. “Do I do that a lot?” I asked.

She laughed.

I guess I do.

But look at that face, those eyes! It’s hard not to see that he has a special way of thinking. And if I quote him a lot, it’s because we talk so much. I discuss everything with him and while I don’t always agree with what he says, I love his clarity and his consistency.

I also love his style. Unlike me, Ravi does everything carefully and thoughtfully, giving it his full attention and consideration. Back when Moy Moy used to be able to eat, her favorite breakfast was an omelette. Ravi always made it for her, and he did it with all the elan of a great French chef. From cracking the eggs, to whipping them into soft peaks to pouring the mixture onto the hot pan, every move he made was measured and attentive. The omelette was always perfect, and he always charged her what he said it would cost in New York City – 40 dollars.

Now Moy Moy gets her meals through a tube, and her food is a powdered formula which we add water to and stir till smooth. Ravi still takes about three times as long to do it as I do, insisting that each meal he prepares is worth making into a ceremony. Moy Moy thrives on his approach and we all learn a lot by watching.
