An initiative taken for a social cause sets your foot on holy ground and you’ll not go without leaving your trail behind…. So why not put a step forward to help the people with disabilities and make them shine in this world with the talents infused in them.

Disability is not a disease. I don’t know why people are so afraid of it. People with special needs are human beings too, so why to create line of differences with them. They are rather special people with special needs. Just a bit of love, care and patience of yours can change their life. Seeing the dark abyss of time- ignorance and conventional norms still prevails in our society. We need to change the perception of the people and set them right. People talk about development but until and unless they don’t change and develop their mindset first, is development possible? Think about it.

It was Saturday, 28 November ’09. The afternoon was warm and pleasant. Many people had gathered from different disability organizations, namely, Raphael, Latika Roy Foundation, Gokul, Sharp, Noenga for Tibetans, Bajaj Institute of Learning (hearing disability), National Institute of Visually Handicapped (NIVH), National Institute of Orthopaedically Handicapped, Aseemit and many more in the Dehradun Disability Forum (DDF) to support the cause of ‘badhte kadam’. It was indeed a moment to think in the deep labyrinths of our mind, to visualize, to foresee about this unhidden truth which people don’t want to see. Yet it exists in our so called ‘globalized world’. ‘Badhte kadam’ is an initiative that infact motivates people to step out of the crowd and contribute to the ‘change’ we need in the society. The ‘excluded section’ is also a part of this very world in which we are living.

Disseminating information and creating awareness among people about disability, these organizations act as catalyst to stimulate the minds of the people with misconceptions. The candles, envelopes, paper bags, cloth bags, curtain hangings, photo frames, greeting cards and more made by the people with special needs is indeed appreciable. How well these people can paint, sing and dance is beyond your imagination! Some of them are God gifted. Their hidden talents come out when you mould them in the right form.

Come and explore what you haven’t yet done. Your contribution to this section of the society can change their world. Let’s think broad. There is always a hassle about our country doing nothing for us. Well if the statement is changed, you being a citizen of your country, what have you done for the nation? Is there any relevant answer? (Spitting on the roads and just mocking on concerned issues. That’s it!)

It just takes a moment of yours to decide how well you can contribute in the real phase of life. Latika Roy Foundation does face painting on various occasions to felicitate its social cause and its so much fun and frolic! The children with special needs enjoy it to a large extent. The significance behind it is to spread the spectrum of colours into their lives to make them happy, cheerful and bright. It’s always true that when you make someone happy, you are full of delight and content. All they need is your love, kindness and a smile to make them stand on their feet looking up with hope.

“Counting colours in the rainbow,
Everytime the clouds of grey go…..
In all those colours,
I see above me,
I count the blessings of someone who loves me….”
