As a foundation working for people with disabilities we realize the importance of early intervention. We know that early intervention services can quell parents’ anxiety and most importantly they can enhance a child’s educational and developmental growth making him more self reliant.
This is a reason why several years ago we started the Early Intervention Centre at St. Joseph’s Academy (now relocated to 55 B, E.C. Road). As the demand grew we opened another centre at C 23, Sector I, Defence Colony to cater to parents from the other side of town. This centre our Satellite EIC is aptly named Khushi. Khushi means joy or happiness and that is exactly what you feel when you enter the gates of the Satellite EIC.
The day begins with group activities where the children sit around in a circle and sing songs. Each activity that is done at the center has a purpose behind it, while singing the children enact the lyrics thus working on their motor skills while having fun! Through games and fun the children are taught nursery rhymes, basic counting and everyday skills like tying shoelaces, washing their hands etc. But the most important lesson that they learn at this center is that of inclusion as the center has children with special needs and mainstream children who come to the crèche. The children do all the activities together and through personal experience I know that their favorite activity is playing hide and seek!

Now, I have to tell you something very important. If you think that you can go to Khushi, look around for a while, play with the children and leave within an hour, you are in for a surprise! There is absolutely no way that you can leave. Even after spending the whole day there you will not be satisfied you will want to stay just a little longer.

That is the magic of Khushi. Once you are inside this room the world outside ceases to exist.

If you don’t believe me, come visit and see for yourself!
