I was so honored to be asked to speak to the Theology Department at Boston College. The place is teeming with living legends: Lisa Cahill, Ken Himes (Michael’s brother), Robert Imbelli, Bob Daly, James Keenan, Catherine Cornille and a host of others. I have read their work and marveled at their scholarship, understanding and depth of knowledge. To say I felt like a very small fry is way understating the situation. But it is the mark of greatness to be kind to lesser mortals and I felt completely at home and at ease with all of them. We had a wonderful two hour session, marred only, for me, by the absence of Toni and Gloria, the department secretaries, who have been like mothers to Cathleen and to whom I owe a great deal.
