At Latika, there’s something worth celebrating every moment – a student begins to focus on an activity for a minute longer than he usually does; another waves bye-bye to Mama without tears; a third begins to walk to the bus stop all on her own…. But what better way to celebrate than through the festivals that unite us? Diwali, Eid, Christmas, or Janmashtami, we revel in India’s diverse cultures and traditions, with every occasion presenting an opportunity to make merry while reinforcing our commitment to inclusion and unity.

As a symbol of the triumph of good over evil and the victory of righteousness and justice, Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, is a reflection of Latika’s own vision – a better world for children with disabilities, where they and their families have equal access to opportunities, support, and respect.

A Day of Joy and Creativity at Latika

At Latika Training, the vocational trainees performed a group dance that paid tribute to Krishna’s arrival in the world through a social story. The traditional Dahi Handi event brought an element of fun and excitement, as participants aimed to break the pot in celebration of Krishna’s childhood mischief.

At Latika Vihar, our inclusive play center, the children and their families enjoyed a lively mix of activities that included a prashad cooking session. A sense of togetherness and participation filled the air as the kids prepared sweet offerings to Lord Krishna.

At the festive arts and crafts session, the children decorated Krishna’s jhoola, created jhaanki from clay, and crafted colorful bansuris, matkis and mor pankh, the iconic symbols of Krishna’s life and stories.

The highlight of the day was a cultural program where the audience were treated to stories about Lord Krishna’s adventures. Bhajans filled the air. Fun games and dancing kept the energy high, with the children enjoying every moment of the celebration.

One of the memorable moments of the program was a special performance by Poonam Barthwal, a Latika parent, whose involvement added a personal and emotional touch to the day’s festivities, exemplifying the sense of community and support that Latika fosters.
