In February this year, 13 of our athletes participated in a sports meet in the run up to the Special Olympics at Jyoti Special School, Rishikesh. They competed in the 100-meter race, bocce, shot put, and softball throw, and what a performance they gave – one hundred percent, all of them, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Vanshika won gold in the softball throw.
Dewansh Awasthi, in the 100m race. “It was great participating in the 100m and winning. I’m going to keep working hard to continue winning gold,” he said.
Swayam Singh won silver in shotput.
Behind the scenes, another victory – a milestone in independence as our young women athletes stayed overnight without their parents for the first time. Our heartfelt thanks to Coach Satyendra Kumar and mentors Pusha Upadhyay and Jagdish Lal for their dedication. A huge shoutout also to all the parents for their unwavering support.
Not every child can be a champion but they can all enjoy opportunities to build fitness, confidence, social skills, and a sense of achievement. So we adapt and modify sports to match the abilities of our students and trainees. Bocce, for example, is fantastic for all skill levels. We focus on participation — trying new things, having fun and staying active – rather than perfection, because every step counts, whether it’s fun moments with friends or a personal best or a gold medal. Through the joy of movement, the thrill of competition, and friendships formed along the way, games and sports enrich our children’s lives in countless ways.
