Sumita Nanda, Chief Operating Officer, and Aarti Nair, Director, Services, represented Latika at the Wipro Education Forum, 4—6 December 2024. The theme, ‘Capacity Building for and by Civil Society Organizations’, resonated with our mission to provide specialized, localized services to disabled children and their families, and help others do the same.
As an organization that strives to strengthen its own capacities to be able to empower others, this forum provided a platform to exchange ideas, share challenges, and learn from some of the brightest minds in the sector.
The sessions included:
- Plenary Session: Engaging with civil society for systemic change, highlighting Wipro Foundation’s journey in inclusive education.
- Panel Discussion: Exploring the purpose, process, and impact of teaching-learning materials.
- Sub-group Dialogue: Knowledge transfer vs. changes in practice in capacity-building initiatives.
- Masterclasses: Promoting inclusive education practises.
Eminent speakers like Anurag Behar (Azim Premji Foundation), Ravi Gulati (Manzil), and Gurleen Malhotra (Jodo Gyan) enriched the discussions with their expertise. Anurag stressed the importance of quality over quantity or scale. A key takeaway for Aarti was that children of all abilities should have an equal right to opportunities to learn and participate so that they can put their best foot forward for the future.
A Gathering of Changemakers
With over 200 participants from across India, the forum emphasized the collective responsibility of civil society organizations in ensuring every child’s right to quality education. In addition to the wealth of learning, the event was an opportunity to build connections and collaborate for change. Samuhik Pahal, a newsletter with key highlights from the programme, will be uploaded to Wipro Foundation’s Youtube channel shortly.
