And now for something completely different . . .

lucy-and-owen.JPG
The day of Mom’s funeral. Lucy still in her black dress, Owen, her nine year old son, still in his shirt and tie (the hat was his own addition). Lucy wanted to kiss the beloved boy. He had other ideas.

I love the “life goes on-ness” of this one. Of all the grandchildren, Owen and his little brother Enzo had the closest relationship with Mom – by virtue of living next door to her. They were in and out of her house all day long and with their mother her primary caretaker, they knew the score. They loved their grandmother dearly but they were not sentimental about her. They saw her life and her death as they really were and they were there for the duration. Glorious boys, both of them, and a joy to Mom in the last years of her life.
