Razia

A story of hope and justice

In 2014, in a small hamlet in Dehradun, a 13-year old named Razia (name changed) was raped by a neighbor. The child was intellectually disabled and had difficulty speaking. She was admitted to Doon Hospital where the Foundation ran an assessment center. Meanwhile the village police refused to file a First Information Report (FIR) because the rapist’s family had ties with the local land mining mafia. The case became murkier as his parents submitted fake documents, tampered with the medical reports and FIR that was eventually filed, and tried to bribe Razia’s family into withdrawing the charges.
