Government Orders (GO’s) are instructions given by the government regarding concerns which may be necessary but have not been included in the relevant act of law. Some acts were drafted years ago. However the world keeps changing. Instead of amending an act, a long and complicated procedure, the relevant government ministry can issue orders which bring the law up to speed.

Central government orders are applicable across the country; state government orders are applicable only for that particular state.

A government order has legal standing and failure to obey it constitutes contempt of court.
