Handsome Indian man in white shirt and black vest smiling; American woman in red listening beside him (also smiling)

We got lucky yesterday. And by “we”, I mean the country.

Keshav Desiraju has been appointed Health Secretary, Government of India.

I’ve heard him described as a visionary, a person of impeccable honesty and total integrity, a man of action and a dedicated public servant.

All true.

Add sense of humor, sense of the absurd, political acumen, and a dazzling ability to articulate complex ideas.

And don’t forget courtesy and kindness.

The country got lucky yesterday. We need more days like this.

India is indeed lucky – lucky to have civil servants of the caliber of Keshav Desiraju, and lucky that he has been made health secretary. This posting has got it exactly right – he is dedicated, hard-working, amusing, intellectually agile, curious, and caring.

quite true… I would be careful about using “visionary” though. But “a man of action”? Give me a break!
